Welcome to Grunt Works

Grunt Works is a home for the rank and file—ordinary people doing the quiet, stubborn work of making the world better. And in a world like ours, you can’t do that without a little belief, regardless of where it comes from.

We borrow the image of toy soldiers, but instead of weapons they carry gardening tools. Transforming a world of war into something hospitable means cultivating dignity, planting hope, and tending to the questions that institutions would rather push aside.

“[Joshua] did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited but humbled himself, taking the form of a [grunt], obedient to the point of death.”

You are not alone.

You are not alone.

If you’ve ever felt like you didn’t quite belong in church, or in the slick world of politics, you’re not alone. Grunt Workers are the folk at the margins, the ones who carry the load without the spotlight.

It’s time to make “lowly” less lonely.

Christian soldiers are not alone

This is not about marching in lockstep. It’s about creating space where curiosity is welcome, big questions are honored, and meaning can grow. Think less cathedral, more cottage: a warm and inviting fellowship rooted in humility, courage, and care for the ordinary.

Here’s what you’ll find here:

Learning

Resources and reflections that feed the mind without suffocating the soul.

Community

Events like GruntCon and places like The Chapter House where people connect, wrestle, and rest.

Action

Advocacy and initiatives that stand up for dignity in real, tangible ways.

We believe making a difference matters more than making a profit. That’s why everything we do supports the Hospitallers of St. Martin, a monastic community for anyone scarred by war, poverty, or violence.
