GruntCon

Lacey, WA | October 25, 2025

GruntCon is enlisted ekklesia

A (hopefully annual) conference for Christian soldiers, GruntCon is being organized under the banner of the Hospitallers of St Martin, an ecumenical monastic community in the Episcopal tradition that focuses on Prayer, Hospitality, and Reconciliation for veterans and all those who have been affected by war, poverty, and violence.

Whether you’re an armchair theologian or a barracks lawyer, GruntCon is for any rank and file believer looking for meaning in faith and service.

We don’t have anything against officers, but the Bible includes a clear mandate to consider the last, the least, and the lost. In the military, that includes Squids (Navy), Boot (Marines), and Grunts (Army). If events are temporary communities, GruntCon is a place where "lowliness" is no longer equivalent to loneliness. To learn more about the community GruntCon is trying to cultivate, check out Grunt Works’ About page.

FAQs

  • You don’t have to be a Grunt to attend, but you do have to be an Ally.

According to Isaiah 40, the mountains of privilege will be brought low so that the valleys of marginalization may be raised up. “Allies” are people who voluntarily share their privilege so that all people will see the glory of the Lord. “Fools” is the name scripture gives to those who wait for the leveling to occur by force. 🤷

  • GruntCon is for a “Maturing” audience, no nudity but plenty of curses (and hopefully a few blessings).

Obscenity is inseparable from armed service, that’s why military suffering produces such profound perseverance and character. Folk who have the luxury to choose which obscenities they’re exposed to bear the responsibility for those boundaries; privilege mustn’t put our neighbor to shame. In other words, you set your own boundaries, and you enforce them (on yourself).

  • If we determine we can livestream or record the conference then we will add a new ticket type to allow folks to join us digitally. If we can record audio and/or video, we will update the answer to this FAQ. 🫡

  • As we secure funding and refine our budget, it is our hope that we can offer financial assistance for anyone who lacks the resources to attend. To sponsor GruntCon, email organizers at PewPewHQ at Gmail dot com.
