WTF is this?

Grunt Works is for rank and file believers—the everyday people who bear the weight of the world without trying to hog the spotlight.

We borrow the image of toy soldiers, but instead of weapons they carry gardening tools. That’s what we’re about: planting, tending, and cultivating something better together. The work of grunts isn’t glamorous, but it is steady, stubborn, and essential.

At its heart, Grunt Works is a place where you don’t have to leave your curiosity at the door. Too often, institutions (religious or otherwise) reward conformity and punish questions. Here, wonder is not a threat; it’s the soil where meaning and purpose begins.

We take inspiration from stories of humble people in hard places—whether that’s farmers in the field, neighbors in need, or even the hobbits in Tolkien’s Shire. The wisdom of the world more often comes from those at the margins, not from thrones or pulpits.

Grunt Works is a social enterprise with three commitments:

  • Learning together — making space for thoughtful exploration that nurtures resilience and hope.

  • Standing up — advocating for dignity in the face of systems that grind people down.

  • Giving back — all profits support the Hospitallers of St. Martin, a community for anyone of any faith scarred by war, poverty, or violence.

Why? Because making a difference is more important than making a profit.

I am LoganMI

I help people find meaning in faith & service.

My service included six years in the Army as a forward observer assigned to the 82nd Airborne and 25th Infantry (Light) divisions. After a deployment to Iraq, I sought to lay down my weapons as a noncombatant, but I was discharged instead. I then earned degrees in theology at Duke University (MTS, 2013) and the University of St Andrews (M.Litt, 2015).

As an author and editor, I have over 20 publications to my name, including Reborn on the Fourth of July, awarded a Publishers Weekly Starred Review, and “Ponder Christian Soldiers,” named the Best Article Series of 2016 by the Evangelical Press Association.

I can help you:

Process combat stress and get on with life

If God is everywhere, what about war? I can help you find beauty on the battlefield.
