Profiles in Hate: Trent A. Fox

Trent Allen Fox set fire to the American Legion hall in Albany, OR on July 4, 2010, just eight months after Section 4712 of the Hate Crimes Prevention Act made it a hate crime to target victims “on account of their military service.” Although a federal law enforcement agency, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF), assisted the Albany Police Department in its investigation, Fox was never charged with a hate crime under 18 U.S.C. § 1389.
