Hospitallers have a long history

Two monastic orders have used the moniker of “Hospitaller,” from the Middle French word hospitalier, for someone who hosts travelers and strangers. The first were the Knights Hospitallers, who were originally formed in the 11th century to provide food and shelter for pilgrims out of a hospital in Jerusalem, but later became an armed military organization. Later, in the 16th century, former soldier St John of God formed the Brothers Hospitallers to administer the hospitals he created in Spain.

The Hospitallers of St. Martin (HoSM) is an ecumenical monastic Community in the Episcopal tradition that focuses on Prayer, Hospitality, and Reconciliation for veterans and all those who have been affected by war, poverty, and violence.

HoSM was founded by two priests, an Episcopalian and a Lutheran, as a sister ministry to the Episcopal Veterans Fellowship (EVF). The first Hospitallers of Saint Martin took Solemn Vows on March 4, 2016. Members are listed here in order of seniority, and alphabetically for those whose profession occurred on the same day.
